Root canal treatment (also known as "endodontics") allows us to save a tooth when the nerve or dental pulp is inflamed, infected or damaged. The goal is to eliminate the infection from inside the tooth, disinfect the canals and seal them so you can keep the tooth and chew with peace of mind.
At Moran Dental Clinic (Mexico City) we perform root canal treatments with a focus on comfort, pain control and a clear plan so you feel confident every step of the way.
When do you need one?
- Deep cavities that reached the nerve
- Spontaneous pain or intense sensitivity to cold/heat
- Dental trauma (blows or hits)
- Inflammation or a "small lump" on the gum near the tooth
- A tooth that has darkened with no apparent reason
Does a root canal hurt?
No. Its bad reputation is from decades ago. Today we use digital anesthesia, dental microscopy and the latest rotary instruments that make the procedure comfortable and, in most cases, painless. What hurts is not treating it in time.
Steps of the treatment
- Diagnosis with digital X-ray and pulp vitality test.
- Local anesthesia adjusted to your level of sensitivity.
- Tooth access and cleaning of the infected canals.
- Hermetic sealing with biocompatible materials.
- Restoration or crown to restore function and aesthetics.
Aftercare
Avoid chewing hard foods with that tooth for the first 24-48 hours until the final restoration is placed. Keep your normal hygiene routine. Any mild discomfort can be eased with common pain relievers.
